Tuesday September 2, 2003
Labor Day over, the work crew returned to work and most of the time was spent in trying to close up all of the open ditches they had. They are about ready to run their leak test on the work between Bathhouse 2 and the sewer plant.
The most important work today was placing the manhole in front of Lot 658. They had to work around two different pipes which were in the way. I had never seen them actually put a manhole in the ground so today I spent considerable time watch all the work they had to do. It had to be down at a certain depths and then be level. It is quite a task to get it right.
I think the last cut was made into a lot on Block 4. So soon they can test this block and then fill in the open ditches. They also removed the blacktop from most of the way over to the Rec hall.
More tomorrow.

Wednesday September 3, 2003
They tested the sewer system from bathhouse 2 down to the sewer plant and found everything OK. They are now going to test Block 4. This means that the connection into the various lots can be completed.
The foreman put all his men to work on the connection between bathhouse 2 and the gate. That is almost completed. Tomorrow they will install a new lift station down at the sewer plant. They installed another manhole opposite the sign board by the tennis court. Next they will be working around the Rec Hall.
We can begin to see the end of the work. They will soon be paving where they have been working so we can ride over the work in more comfort. The people around by the store and the pool will be the next to suffer.

I am afraid this report is going to be short.
Carlos the foreman on the job was disappointed this morning because he had planned on setting at least a part of the lift station up at the sewer plant. The shipment was stopped at the weigh station up the Keys because they were 2 inches higher than their permit stated. Therefore they worked on cutting ditches into several lots between Bathhouse 2 and the gate and then filled in some big holes that they had opened. By 5 PM everything was shut down until tomorrow. No more work had been done around the Rec Hall area.

Friday September 5, 2003
It wasn't a very exciting day on the sewer work. Since the part of the lift station to be installed up at the sewer plant did not get down her they worked to get the road past the end of the Rec Hall finished for over the weekend. They finished up the installation of the manhole by the sign board. They closed up and were out of here by about 4PM.
They have been promised that the delivery of the part of the lift station will be here on Monday. I found out that the company bringing the part down had never delivered anything down in the Keys so they did not know of some of the restrictions.
So we will have some peace and quiet over the weekend.
More on Monday.

As I told you that the shipment of the part for the lift station up at the sewer plant would be here today, excuse me but I was informed that now it would not be here until Wednesday.
They tested the sewer on Block 4 for leaks today. The foreman told me today that when the company that is to do the paving comes he is going to start them on Block 4.
Today they were working toward the store past the Rec Hall. They were also finishing up the connection between bathhouse 2 and the gate. The plumbers are working every day on making the connection on the lots. They are keeping the way into the mail call parking clear.

Work continued on Block 4 where a leak occurred in the sewer system. They found it and repaired it so the sewers in the Block are OK. They are still making some connections on Eagle Nest Drive between bathhouse 2 and the gate. They have worked all the way over to the store where they are installing another manhole.
The part for the lift station at the sewer plant is supposed to arrive tomorrow.
They will start the reclamation on Block 4 first because there will be no need to tear it up again.
The foreman Carlos Alvarez says he hopes to have all of the heavy machinery out of the park in 3 weeks.
More Wednesday.

Wednesday September 10, 2003
The expected shipment for the lift station at the sewer arrived and with a heavy rain they succeeded in getting unloaded and the two largest pieces were put in place with the help of the crane from Key West. I watched most of it but had to come home because I was soaked to the skin. The rest of the work can be done with the equipment they have here on the job.
Carlos says he expects to be out of here in about three weeks and then the paving people will have taken over to finish up. They are practically thru with the digging for hookups up to the gate.

Thursday September 11, 2003
We had more rain here today which hampered the work they had started.
They started preparing the street in Block 4, in order to repair the road surface. Of course they had to stop and plan on coming back tomorrow. They did go ahead with the work up by the Rec Hall. They have some very deep ditches there and are finding all kinds of pipes and cables.
I hope that I can give a better report on Friday.

Friday September 12, 2003
Friday afternoon and the workers are closing down for the week. They have most of the holes closed up now clear over to the store.
We have a "boil your water" order from the County. They have broken too many water pipes so they gave us that order.
They have been rolling down the fill in the stretch from the sewer plant up toward the gate. I understand that the group working on the paving on Block 4 will be working tomorrow, Saturday. They couldn't do much today because of the rain we had yesterday and last night. The only good thing about the rain is that it cut down the dust.
As the work progresses it gets hard to find something to tell you. I may have a report tomorrow if they get to work.

Special Report Saturday September 13, 2003
We had perfect weather this forenoon and the paving company came in and did a lot of work here on Block 4. They did a lot of cleaning along the edges and rolled and packed the part where they had removed the paving.
Things looked pretty good and then we had a hard rain. I rode around the Block and some places were flooded. How much damage I couldn't tell.
At least it looks as if we have escaped the hurricane.

Monday September 15, 2003
Today has had the contractors not knowing what they were doing. As I understand BellSouth and Comcast came in and wanted a conduit put in up and down the center of the road. I guess they want to run their lines there.
The road in Block 4 was too wet to do any paving so they moved and started working up by the sewer plant. They also were working on the road around Bimini Circle. When I last checked they were connecting the sewer from the Rec Hall.
I had a doctor's appointment so I was not here through the center of the day. Kevin gave me an update when I got home.

Tuesday September 16, 2003
If you went out around the park today you would say that not much was done. But a great deal of cleaning up getting ready for paving was accomplished. They did get some paving done down at the end of Block 4 and Carlos promises that if the rain stays away tonite they will finish all of Block 4.
They continued on the circle by the store. The only delay was when they cut another water line and had to shut off all the water for a time. Just one of the many interruptions of the work.
In the midst of all of this they had a crane in and painted the Flag pole which is always a thing to see.
A word about our site here on the Internet. It has been updated so that you can quickly access even the site put out weekly by Kevin and Jennifer. I highly recommend your clicking on OFFICIAL and getting another view of the work being done, with some pictures.

Wednesday September 17, 2003
This morning we had all kinds of work being done. They cleaned out all of the openings going into the various lots and had it all ready for the blacktop. They got some work done and then the trucks bringing the blacktop did not arrive so they had to stop early and then the rain came and now things are all flooded.
Carlos still maintains that they will be able to finish the paving on Block 4 tomorrow. They are almost done around Bimini Circle except for cutting for a few lots.
I hope I can have a happier report tomoroow.

Thurssday September 18, 2003
Work continues on the black topping of Block 4. They ran out of material about 150 feet from the junction in front of Bath House 2/
One of the main complaints is that several people are without TV. One lady told me she hasn't had TV for 10 days. She was very disgusted with COMCAST.
They are also working in the area of the Rec Hall and are placing a manhole near the mail call parking area. Work has been going on in several other areas finishing sewer connections. Most connections have been made up the gate from bath house 2.
I hope that much more finishing will be done before the week end.

Friday September 19, 2003
Yesterday they ran out of black top so today they brought in another load and finished all of B;Block 4 and used the rest to do some black topping up by the sewer plant.
The regular contractors did quite a bit of clean up on Eagle Nest Drive and around toward the store. They also did work starting around the pool area.
Because of the weekend they closed down early and went home. They will all be back Monday and get things stirring again. I will be glad to have a couple of days off in my reporting.
More Monday. Have a good weekend and I hope everone survived the hurricane.

Monday September 22, 2003
This is the day that I hate to send a message. I thought last week that things were coming along just fine. Today they have torn up the street between bathhouse 2 and the gate, by digging big holes in the road. I can't attempt to tell you why all of this mess.
Then from the sewer plant, coming this way they have cleaned out the places where they went in for connection and have not paved them so the passage over that part is rougher than it was before.
I sure hope that tomorrow will be different from today.

Tuesday September 23, 2003
I will give them a better report today.
They laid about 250 feet of pipe today around past the Bocce Courts and only cut the water line once. They placed the blacktop up to bathhouse 2.
Carlos had to send them home because they were catching up and wanting to go where he wasn't ready for them. They only dug one hole in the road today because one owner came back and needed his service.
All in all it was a very successful day.
More tomorrow.

Wednesday September 24, 2003
Carlos was rejoicing this evening because they placed the last piece of the sewer line in the ground. Now they have to finish connecting about 20 sewer into lots.
The blacktop crew came back this morning and finished using the last truck load of blacktop. They will now wait for Carlos' crew to catch up before finishing the black topping.
A very successful day.
More tomorrow.

Thursday September 25, 2003
This report will be brief and I will take part of the blame. This morning I had some work of my own to be done and the as per every Thursday I went to Rotary in Key West. When I came home we had a severe thunder, lightening and rain storm so I did not have chance to observe what was done. This storm reminds us that 5 years ago today Hurricane George devastated our park.
The one thing I did observe before going to Rotary was the park maintenance crew was stringing more wiring for our street lights.
I hope that things will not be as interrupted tomorrow as they were today.

Friday September 26, 2003
I am getting to the point where I dread to have to write something. We have had so much rain that it is impossible to keep the cuts in the road filled. As fast as they fill them the cars and trucks go thru them and with the water mixed in with the gravel or earth just splashes the fill out and we have rough roads.
They have enough work to do yet that they can't blacktop all of the places. Today they did put the caps on some of the sewers which will make them accessible in case of a plug up. They also dug for more connections in the area around the pool.
Last night COMCAST went no signal in the middle of the Marlin's game. Everybody except those who have a dish were without TV the rest of the night.
Today we only had one water outage. They have closed up for the week so don't expect any news until Monday.

Monday September 29, 2003
Because of the rain the work today was cut short. Most of the time was spent making the connection on the lots down by the Pool. I was down there this evening and they showed me what they had to contend with. Almost every lot in that area had the same problem. The one I saw had at least 5 or 6 pipes and electric or cable line in the way. They were having to work around these.
Slow work. They had planned working on the final finishing of the connections on Block 4.
I hope that we do not have all this rainy weather tomorrow.

Tuessday September 30, 2003
Today has been a clear day and I expected them to accomplish much work. Because of all the pipes and wires they had to work around they still have two more cuts to make for connections. See the picture below to see just how congested it is underground. I also hear they cut another telephone line.
They have had a leak somewhere between bathhouse 2 and the gate. They have had a company with cameras working most of the day. As I write this they are still working with the camera. Until they find this leak they can't proceed with the blacktop work in that area.
Hope for more success tomorrow.
